Colette Davies
Colette Davies is an artist and basketmaker who lives and works in Monmouthshire, Wales.
Colette is inspired by the natural world around her and the details she finds in organic forms. She enjoys immersing herself in the changing seasons, which are integral to the way she works when gathering and processing plant materials for her baskets. She is detail orientated and a keen magpie for collecting ‘natural treasures’ when out walking, treasures that often find their way into her work.
She weaves traditional and contemporary baskets and other work from rush and other plant materials that she either grows herself or gathers in her local environment; every summer Colette harvests her own rush from a river in Somerset with a group of other Basketmakers’ Association members.
Colette enjoys spending time experimenting with materials and techniques to see what is possible; exploring the play of colour, lines of stitching and the texture of plant fibres fascinates her.
