Frame Basketmaking Workshop

Join Mary Lewis for this mini frame basketmaking workshop. Using Somerset and homegrown willow, this basket is made by creating a frame and then weaving around it. The shape and size of the basket is formed using bent willow ribs that are added first. These baskets are perfect for gathering berries or collecting eggs.

Mary's supportive, relaxed teaching style will guide you through the various stages of the basket. You will gain an understanding of how the willow behaves as you weave and, after the final trimming up, you will have a useful basket you will be proud to take home. You will learn about the simple tools that are used in basketry and weaving techniques that can be applied to a wide range of baskets.

All tools and materials will be provided. Please wear closed toe shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting a bit grubby.
